11/22: North Haven won the toss
and deferred their choice to the second half. Amity took the
kickoff and moved towards midfield, but a big sack by Chris
Matteis and a fumble gave Indians the ball. A sweeping run by
Billy McDonald, and nice runs by Mike Mauro, Mark Zurlis and
Brandon McLane on an end around coupled with keepers by QB Steve
Cusano moved the ball in close before coming up against a 4th
and 3 from the 5. An encroachment penalty on the defense moved
the ball half the distance to the goal, and then #42 busted in
for the TD. The kick was no good, so the score was 6-0. The
kickoff that folowed was last play of 1st quarter, so in the
second, Amity moved the ball right down and scored on a 4th and
1 from the 1 and a half on a pass to a receiver in the front
left corner of the end zone by the pylon. |
11/22: The Spartan QB overthrew
his receiver attempting the conversion, so the score remained
tied at 6-6. Amity tried an onside kick and recovered it, but
interference was called and North Haven was given possession on
their own 48. A short drive saw the Indians move down the field
quickly, highlighted by a pounding run up the middle by Zurlis
and capped off with a 10+ yard TD run by Matteis via
redirection. The kick again was no good, so the score was 12-6.
After taking the kick, Amity moved quickly across midfield using
several short passes before Tim Castelli intercepted a pass and
North Haven went into halftime with a lead. A trade of fruitless
possessions began the second half, before North Haven was able
to take a drive down to Amity's goal line as the third quarter
ended. On the first play of the 4th, Matt Vece carried it in for
a short touchdown. The pass was overthrown so the score was now
18-6.
(Photos) |
11/22: After the kickoff, the
Spartans first play was a snap over the QB's head while in the
shotgun for a loss of 11 yards. A screen pass followed
then a 65+ yard run through several missed tackles brought the
ball down to the Indians goal line. #88 took it in on next play
for a touchdown. On the conversion attempt, a penalty on the
defense moved the ball half the distance closer, but the Spartan
QB fumbled the snap and then was pushed backwards so the score
was 18-12. After a North Haven punt, Amity tried one to mount
one last drive to tie the score. They converted on third and
long through the air and kept the drive alive by converting a
4th down and moving out towards midfield, but a big sack of the
Amity QB by Mike Iannone on 4th down stopped the Spartans' and
sealed the win for North Haven. |

11/17: North Haven kicked off,
and the Lawmen received it and then worked a drive past midfield before they
came up against 4th down. A bad snap had the Law punter on the
run, and when he was tackled, the Indians took over on Law's 41.
The Indians couldn't cash in on this good fortune, but Billy
McDonald's punt pinned Law in deep in their own end. Law
couldn't move, so they punted it back. This time, the favorable
field position didn't go to waste as Nate Alleyne ripped off a
long run to the 8 and the first quarter expired. On the first
play of the second quarter, Schwab went around the left end and
in for a TD. Rob Carbone's kick was good putting the Indians up
7-0. |
11/17: A short
kickoff gave Law the ball at their 44. A long run set up a 30
yard pass play down the right sideline for a quick Law
touchdown. North Haven was offside as the kick was missed, so a
penalty moved the ball half the distance to the goal, so Law ran
it, fumbled it into the end zone and then recovered it for 2
points and an 8-7 lead. NH took the next kick, and Schwab led
the offense into the Law red zone with several keepers and the
powerful runs of Trevor Keys - busting through tacklers.
Aided by a face mask penalty, the Indians moved to the Law 8.
Two ensuing touchdown runs were called back by penalties, and
then two incomplete passes later, the half ended.
(Photos) |
11/17: North Haven got the ball
to start the second half and drove down to the Law 25 but lost
possession on a broken end around play. The Lawmen moved across
midfield on a long drive, but again punted it away, pinning
North Haven at their own 12. Schwab then had 2 great runs for 11
and then 71 yards down to the 6 as the 3rd quarter ended. On the
first play of the 4th, Chris Matteis ran it for 3, then Schwab
busted in for his second TD. The conversion run
to left side was stopped so the score was 13-8. The two teams
traded possessions before Law put together a drive that moved
them across midfield. Billy McDonald stopped the Lawmen cold
when he dove and made a game ending interception. The Indians
then ran out the clock to win this one, 13-8. |

11/8: North Haven won the toss
and deferred their choice to the second half. East Haven
received the opening kickoff and made it across the timeline but
then turned it over on downs. The two teams traded punts before
Nick Melillo faked a hand off into the line and then took it
around the right end and ran for a 45 yard TD. The snap was bad
on the conversion, so no kick was attempted, and the score was
6-0. In the 2nd, the Indians turned the ball over deep in their
own end on a broken option play. East Haven took over on the
Indian 14, but after 3 plays, the Yellow Jackets had lost 2
yards and were up against 4th and long. An innocent pass to the
sideline was turned into a touchdown with a hook and ladder play
which caught North Haven by surprise. East Haven scored an
additional 2 by making it through the right side on the
conversion for and 8-6 lead. |
11/8: Seemingly angered by the
trick play, North Haven went right down on a long drive and
scored with a heavy dose of QB keepers to get the ball into East
Haven's red zone. Mike Mauro took a pitch and went around the
left end to get in close, then Mellillo carried it in for the
touchdown. The run was stopped, so the Indians took a 12-8 lead
into the half. North Haven got the ball to start the 3rd,
but had to punt it away. East Haven's next drive was stopped on
their side of the 50, and they turned it over on downs. The
Indians took over on the Yellow Jacket 45. Freshmen QB Joe
Schwab led the offense down to score with a bunch of keepers and
a nice run by Mauro. Schwab carried it in himself for the TD,
but the run conversion was again stopped, so the score was 18-8.
(Photos) |
11/8: East Haven took the next
kickoff and moved across midfield on a half back option throw
that was almost intercepted by Schwab, but as he was juggling
it, the Yellow Jacket receiver stole it away. The ball was on
the 30 as the 3rd quarter ended. On the first play of the fourth
quarter, Mike Mauro stepped in front of a deep pass and took it
back out to the 40. Schwab, still running the offense, broke off
some nice gains, and then followed a nice block into the end
zone for a TD. The kick by Rob Carbone was good, increasing the
score to 25-8. Late in the game, the Indians worked another nice
drive down to the goal line. When it got to be 4th and 3, Mark
Zurlis took a direct snap and pounded it through the right side
for a TD. Carbone's kick made the final score 32-8. |

10/31: North Haven won the toss
and deferred their choice to the second half. After receiving
the opening kickoff, Cheshire's first drive stalled and they had
to punt it back. QB Joe Schwab moved the offense down inside the
Ram 10 with runs by Trevor Keys, Mike Mauro, Mark Zurlis and
himself, but ultimately turned the ball over on downs. On their
next drive, Cheshire went all the way down and scored using QB
keepers and a heavy dose of #9, whose biggest run was up the
middle, across midfield, for 25 yards. The Rams ultimately scored on a QB
keeper, but then he threw an interception to Brandon McLane in
the end zone on the conversion, so the score was 6-0. North
Haven took the next kick and went right down and scored using
mainly QB fakes into the line and then keepers by Schwab. When
it got to be 3rd and 4 from the 13, Trevor Keys followed a great
block and plowed into the end zone for a TD. |
10/31: Robert Carbone drilled
the extra point for a 7-6 lead. Cheshire had time for one more
drive, and moved into North Haven's red zone with under 2
minutes left in the half. They ran over 10 plays but could not
score as the Indians D stepped up big time and stuffed the Rams
final try from the 5 yard line on 4th down. Schwab ran for 11
yards and a first down, and then Brandon McLane took an end
around out near midfield before the Indians took a knee and went
into the half up by a point. North Haven took the 2nd half kick
and moved to the Rams 30 before backing up with penalties and
then punting it away. Cheshire's next drive started to move
forward, but when their QB got into trouble with a pending sack,
he threw an ill advised pass while going down and Trevor Keys picked it off and
returned it 40+ yards for a TD. |
10/31: The kick went wide left,
so the score was now 13-6. Cheshire got the ball back and moved
out near midfield before Mike Ross made a big interception on a
ball thrown over the middle. Ross returned it 15 yards and North
Haven was in set up on the Ram 45. The Indians couldn't move the
ball, however, and had to punt. A poor kick gave Cheshire
the ball back at their own 35 for one final drive. The Rams used
short passes, roll outs and dump offs to move down and score.
They went for 2 and were denied on a pass play but a penalty
moved the ball half the distance closer, so they tried to win it
with an inside hand off, but the runner was buried by an
avalanche of maroon and white. Joe Schwab ran the offense for a
couple of first downs to consume the remainder of the clock and
North Haven went home a one point winner.

10/25: Sheehan won the toss and
deferred their choice to the 2nd half, so North Haven took the
opening kickoff. A nice drive moved across the timeline helped
by a 15 yard penalty for roughing the passer. Brandon McLane
made a nice catch over the middle and then a long run by Trevor
Keyes on 3rd down moved the ball inside of the 10 yard line so
Nick Melillo could take it in on a keeper for a touchdown. The
extra point kick was no good, so North Haven was up 6-0. |
10/25: Sheehan's first drive
stalled when on 3rd down in the shotgun, a bad snap got over the
head of the QB so they had to punt. A short kick gave the
Indians the ball on Sheehan's 30. Melillo scored his second TD
with a 20 yard romp, carrying defenders on his back into the end
zone. The kick was good giving the Indians a 13-0 lead. The
Indians scored again in the second as Freshmen QB Joe Schwab led
the offense handing off repeatedly to fellow Freshmen tailback
Mark Zurlis to move right down and score. |
10/25: Schwab took it in on a 7
yard keeper. The extra point was good and North Haven took a
20-0 lead into the half. Sheehan took the kickoff to start the
3rd quarter and came up short of the 50 and turned the ball over
on downs. North Haven went right down and scored on Melillo's
third TD of the day, a short run to up the score to 27-0, which
ended up being the final score.

10/18: North Haven won the toss
and elected to defer their choice to the second half. Hand took
the opening kickoff and scored quickly, but missed the extra
point and the score was 6-0. North Haven fumbled in their
own territory on their first possession, and the Tigers
capitalized with another TD to extend the score to 13-0. Things
looked pretty bleak half way through the second quarter when
Hand scored a third touchdown to move in front 20-0. But after a
great motivational speech, the Indians put together a solid
drive and scored a TD of their own before the half.
(Photos) |
10/18: Nick Melillo led the
charge, firing a short pass into the back corner of the end
zone. Robert Carbone added the extra point and North Haven
headed into the half down 20-7. The Indians took the second half
kickoff and quickly fumbled it away. The Tigers couldn't do much
with it and fumbled it right back as Nate Alleyne covered it up. North Haven used up
the rest of the 3rd quarter with an impressive drive, converting
a 4th down from the Tiger's 29 in the process. After a nice
juggling catch over the middle by Brandon McLane got the ball to
the goal line, Trevor Keyes took it in for a short TD run and Carbone added
the kick to cut
the score to 20-14. |
10/18: The teams traded punts
starting the fourth before Hand pushed the ball deep into the
Indians' end, but surrendered possession on downs with 1:37 to
play. Brandon McLane earned a crucial first down on an end
around play and then Nick Melillo completed a series of short
passes to McLane and Bryan Maratea, the last of which was a one
handed grab at the 5 yard line. Mellio ran for 4 yards and then
spiked the ball with 6 seconds on the clock. With one play left,
Melillo kept it himself and walked in for the tying score.
Robert Carbone drove the extra point home and North Haven won
this one, 21-20. |

9/20: The first quarter
witnessed each team move the ball, but neither was able to
score. North Haven got on the board first on a nice drive and
then they added the 2 point conversion to go up 8-0. After a
quick stop, the Indians punched in a second TD on a long run on
a reverse by Brandon McLane, but missed the
kick attempt, to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.
(Photos) |
9/20: North Haven's Chris
Matteis took the second half kickoff and broke a nice runback
into Hornet territory. A great run by Michael Romano shortly
thereafter moved the ball into Branford's red zone, and North
Haven scored a couple plays later to take a seemingly
commanding, 21-0 lead. |
9/20: Branford couldn't do
anything with their next possession, and had to punt it away,
but as soon as Nate Alleyne caught it, he was hit by the Hornet's
Logan Yelle and the ball popped out and was scooped up by Jim
Prota and returned for Branford's first score. Backed by some
renewed confidence, the Hornets put together a decent drive
and scored a 4th quarter TD on a pass from Kyle Nolan to Tommy
Boyd to make the final score respectable as North Haven remained
on top, 21-12. |

9/13: Both teams had trouble
scoring early on, but Guilford came close after a pass play took
them down around the North Haven 10 yard line. But their drive
imploded when a bad snap over the QB's head moved them out of
scoring position. North Haven put together a nice drive and got
down inside Guilford's 10 on a nice run by Trevor Keyes and
ultimately scored a few plays later on a QB keeper around the
right side by Steve Cusano with just over 2 minutes in the half. |
9/13: North Haven built their
lead up to 12-0 in the 3rd quarter on a QB option pitch that
Mike Mauro took to the house for a 50+ yard TD. Guilford would
not go away, however, as they scored shortly thereafter on a 4th
down pass play over the middle to cut the lead to 12-7.
(Photos) |
9/11: On the last play of the
3rd quarter, Brandon McLane came around back on a reverse
to the right side and sprinted almost 60 yards for a TD that put
North Haven up 19-7. Guilford added a late TD to cap the scoring
and North Haven won this one, 19-13. |
