SYF Youth Championship
2008 SYFC Youth Champion North Haven B Team
11/23: The Youth
A Indians, wearing white, were the visiting team and such such
called the coin toss and did so correctly and opted to take the
ball on their own 35. Mike Montano had a nice run to move the
ball past midfield. Then Tommy Dodge took a handoff and rolled
left and threw to Montano for a 40+ yard TD. Montano's kick was
good to put the Indians in front, 8-0. After an exchange of
possessions, the Youth B Chiefs, wearing maroon, went down and
scored on a drive that was highlighted by a long run by Connor
Suraci. In the 2nd quarter, Amadi Okwuosa went around the left
end and was gone for a touchdown. Jeremy Imperati's kick
squeaked through the bottom left corner of the uprights to tie
the score at 8 at the half.
11/23:
The Chiefs got the ball on their own 35 to start the 3rd quarter
and moved deep into Indian territory on the strength of Suraci's
QB keepers and an end around run by Okwuosa around the right
side. When it got to be 4th and goal, the Indian's D stepped up
big time and stopped the Chiefs to take the ball back over on
downs. But the Indians could not make a first down, so they had
to punt the ball back. Montano's 20 yard kick gave the Chiefs
the ball back inside the Indian 30.
A short drive ended with a touchdown run on a QB keeper up the
middle by Suraci, who then rolled right and tried to throw into
the end zone for the conversion but was picked off. The third
quarter ended with the Chiefs in front 14 to 8.
11/23:
The Indians started the fourth quarter on their own 35, but
couldn't make a 1st down. On fourth and long, they went for it,
but a fumble gave the Chiefs the ball back on the Indian 33.
Jeremy Imperati then went busting through traffic to move the
ball inside the 5. On the next play, Davey Mikos took it around
the right end and in for a TD. The kick was no good, so the
score was 20-8. With 6 minutes left in the game, the Indians put
together a long drive with some nice runs by Jake Kastenhuber
and Montano to move into the Chiefs' red red zone, but Tommy
Dodge's half back option pass was picked off by Michael Masnato
in the end zone, effectively ending the game.

Week 3 Playoffs
11/16: The Junior B Indians
traveled to Daniel Hand High School in Madison to take on the
Madison C Jaguars in a rematch of a game played earlier this
season in North Haven when the Indians gave the Jags their only
defeat of the 2008 campaign. This time things didn't fair as well as
Madison won 33-0 and advanced to the Championship game next
Sunday.
11/16: North
Haven's Youth A team advanced to the SYF Championship game by
defeating Madison's Youth A Bengals.
On the Indians' first drive, Mike Montano made it around the
left end and had only one man to beat and blew right threw him
for
a long TD. The kick that followed was no good, so the score was
6-0. On their next drive, Tommy Dodge, on a keeper, made it
through the right side of
the line and broke off a 54 yard TD run. After a 5 yard penalty
backed them up, the pass was no good, so the score was 12-0.
Near the end of the half, the Bengals moved across the timeline
but turned it over on downs. With under a minute until the
half, Nick Ponzio fired a short pass to Mike McKenna, who broke into
open and then bolted for a 55 yard TD. Montano's kick
that followed was good making the score 20-0 at the half. North
Haven got the ball to open the second half and went right
down and scored. Jake Kastenhuber made a nice over the shoulder catch
for a first down and McKenna broke another long run but was
pushed out at the 1. Robert Ralston carried it in for the TD. The Kick
was no good, so the final score was 26-0.
11/16: After a
scoreless first period, Amadi Okwuosa got around the left end
and sprinted for a 55 yard touchdown and the Youth B Indians
moved in front of Madison's A team 7-0. Shortly after the Tigers turned
the ball over on downs, Okwuosa broke a 35 yard touchdown around
the left end for another TD. After a 5 yard penalty, Davey Mikos threw
to Jeremy Imperati for the conversion and a
14-0 lead. Mikos was picked off at the Tiger goal line right
before the half, and with seconds left, #34 broke a 90+ yard TD
to make the score to 14-7 at the half. In the 3rd, Mikos threw
to Imperati, who busted threw tacklers for a long gain and then
carried it in on the next play for
a TD to make the final score 20-7. The win for North Haven's
Youth B team sets up an all Indian Championship game next
Sunday.

denied when Dodge picked off his 2nd pass of the day and North
Haven went on to win, 29-13.
11/8:
Amadi Okwuosa scored 3 TDs
and had a 4th called back by a penalty while leading the Youth B Indians past Guilford B, 21-0 on rained
soaked Vanacore field. Okwuosa ran for a 65 yard TD in the

11/9: The Junor B Indians held a
slim 7-6 lead at half time on the Cheshire A Rams, and then scored in

lead. In the 2nd quarter, Suraci had a 14 yard run for a TD and
the conversion kick caught the right upright and fell through
for a 14-0 lead. Joe Corniello added a short TD run (above)
right before the half to increase the lead to 20-0. The Indians
kicked off to open the third and when the Ram receiver was hit
taking it back, he fumbled and Zach Kastenhuber picked it up and
returned it for a 40 yard TD. The point after was good making
the final 27-0.
11/2: North
Haven's Junior A team took an early 7-0 lead in the first when
Nick McInnis went 53 yards around the right side for a TD and
then Evan Manameit threw to Brandon Carfora for the extra point.
But the Indians just could not stop East Haven's #46, Reynolds,
who ran wild for 3 TDs as the Easties scored 24 unanswered
before Nick McInnis took a kick off back 65 yards for a TD that
cut the deficit to 24-14. Reynolds added a
42 yard romp around left end for a touchdown that capped the
